At a time of bitter tension between Christianity and Islam, with violence and slavery everywhere, hand-written books alone carried scientific and medical knowledge. But suspicion and hostility blocked their transmission.
Stone Thrower is the story of an imagined breakthrough based upon historical fact. It is also a story of deadly fighting and of romance.

Stone Thrower edition by Irving Fang Will Wells Literature Fiction eBooks

A fascinating historical novel, in the narrative of a remarkably talented Saxon youth, born in poverty but possessing a unique ability to throw stones with exquisite accuracy. The narrative leads the reader across 10th century Europe, through numerous hazardous encounters, to a dangerous book translation project, involving works in three religions, in the Andalusian triangle. A very compelling story, tightly fitted to the precise historical events of the late tenth century.

Stone Thrower edition by Irving Fang Will Wells Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I enjoyed learning about the doings of wide spread locations during the last few years of the 10th century. While Jan was probably not a realistic character of that time, it was fun to watch his progression.
Dangerously compelling, pulsing with love, life and adventure, The Stone Thrower takes place in a world preparing for Y1K (999AD) through the eyes of Jan, an Everyman boy who teaches as he learns and lives to manhood. In a world where slavery, hypocrisy, prejudice and meritocracy are king the decency of human spirit which we all can possess confronts these base realities with a weapon both common and uncommonly aimed. It’s a quick read, this thrilling Bildunsromance, evocative of Dumas’ Count of Montecristo, its author himself clearly a “force of nature”. In the pathos of today’s world, it is refreshing to find such a rugged, healing justice tale as The Stone Thrower, heft and aim both true with perfect pitch as today’s ills of society find themselves acted out in subtext a millennia ago by a master communicator of the human condition. It’s a rare reader who can put this tale down for more than a few minutes, despite the deliciously short chapters, each building upon the former with subtle and seductive craft. I could not wish anyone I care for a more enjoyable, inspiring experience than picking up The Stone Thrower and making this gem your own.
Well written, captivating novel about the life during the first millennium.
