Think of the greatest tech company in the world. Imagine getting a job there. Picture the perks free gourmet food, free booze, a gym, a swimming pool, and a holiday bonus...every month. Brilliant coworkers. No dress code. Great parties. More money. Everyone's admiration.
Vic is just like any other Harvard grad out there except that he just scored a job at tech empire SHOW. But in the hunt for success and happiness, he falls into a shady world of sex, drugs, and swindle. The young tech elites are just as greedy as Wall Street bankers but all the more cunning. Meanwhile, an office affair is brewing, and his father's absence adds to Vic's decline.
The darker, drug-fueled parallel to Dave Eggers' The Circle, Filip Syta's debut novel, The Show, offers a raw glimpse into the dangerous evolution of the tech world.

Did you grew up loving books who took you on a journey depicting real life scenarios such as working on wall street, or attending Harvard? Then the Show is right up your alley. The Show The Show brought me on a journey navigating through the world of tech in todays day and age. Working at a large tech firm is the goal of many. The writing is engaging and emotional. I throughly enjoyed the ups and downs of each character and more importantly, it made me smile and get sad throughout the book. Knowing that the author comes from the tech world makes the story believable and real. The show however is more than just fictional reading or an insight into the tech world. It sparks inspiration about pursuing your dreams. It takes a bold individual to walk away from something society deems to be perfect. If it isn’t perfect to you, then you are not doing what you love. Quit. Fail. Try new things until you find what you love to do and you will be successful. After reading the show I personally took a look around and changed things around. The show is very inspiring and a great read.Product details

The Show Sex Drugs Tech Silicon Valley the New Wall Street (Audible Audio Edition) Filip Syta Tristan Morris Random House Audio Books Reviews
Depicts the other side of "tech" that you do not hear much about. The story is a quick, entertaining read with an important message. Yes, many of these companies have high salaries and great benefits but there is a flip side to the environment. In fact, many of these companies have high attrition rates as well. I burned out on all the drinking, drugs, sex, and ubiquitous F-word, and it reminded me a bit of the movie (based on the book) "The Wolf of Wall Street", although a little tamer. Nevertheless it is a good entertaining read.
I strongly recommend this book, it contains a mixture of seriousness and humor and I'm fascinated how the author managed to get me so affected, the message in the book really hit me. The book deserves 5 stars , you get an understanding how important it is to follow your dreams and achieve you goals.
As a SF techy it felt very relatable. I understood the person personal struggle and loved the way he wrote about it.
I came into this expecting quite a bit. The story is very short. I read it in like two days. Very disappointing as there were some really interesting characters. In the end they do almost nothing. There really is no plot - just the characters coming to the conclusion that they hate their lives.
The Show falls short of its sex, drugs, tech subtitle. The writing is fine and the message is unimpeachable but it lacks artistry and style and is somewhat problematic. The young character doesn't totally work as his references are not young (wears a watch and listens to Elton John, for example) and his language is not fresh. It seems like The Show attempts to be a Bright Lights, Big City of Big Tech. But the story is light on technology and not innovative (or disruptive). Still, readable, and with some qualities. Classic themes.
Young people who work at Google take drugs, drink, have sex and lie to their bosses. How is this different from people of that age who work for other companies? Half of this book seems to be the author describing the meals that the main character ate or drinks he drank. Use a search engine to find something better to read. This was a waste of my time.
Was really excited about this book, but should have realized I had my hopes high since I saw it on businessinsider. The book gives a decent glimpse into the tech sales culture, but that is about it. The book leaves you with so many unanswered questions. You finally are into the story than you realize that there are only ten pages left. What happens to the girl that he was chasing? He builds up the interest so well and leaves you with no outcome. What happens to Chris's dad? Does Daniel end up staying at the show? What about Hank and Alex? He does a really good job in painting a vivid picture of his colleagues that you want to know what happened to them, but you don't find out.
The book does reflect on a critical part of chasing your dreams and not falling into what society portrays as right. I do wish there was more to the story, but I am excited to read Filip Syta's work in the future.
